Why I love MCU's next phase so far
1. Introducing new characters
First it's Agatha Harkness in WandaVision. Then it's going to be Riri Williams in Ironheart and Kamala Khan (who I've been mistakenly calling Imani in previous posts, so I apologize) in Ms. Marvel and Kate Bishop in Hawkeye and Jennifer Walters in She-Hulk.
Not only are these completely new additions to the MCU cast, they'll also most likely be fleshed out and given backstories and substantial screen time, as well, so hopefully in the future their MCU stories will be as well-known and as detailed as those of Tony Stark or Steve Rogers or Carol Danvers.
2. Potential story expansions for underutilized or largely unknown characters
*We first see Natasha Romanoff in Iron Man 2. We see some of her fighting skills in that same movie. We see some of her backstory in Age of Ultron. And now she's getting a solo film.
*Bucky Barnes and Sam Wilson were largely secondary characters through the first three phases and there's still a lot of story to cover on them. And they're now getting a duo series.
*We don't know all that much about Hawkeye- another secondary character- and we're now seeing him lead his own Disney+ series.
Recognize a pattern here?
3. A potential Young Avengers team-up on the screen
Tommy and Billy from WandaVision (maybe). Kamala Khan from Ms. Marvel. Riri Williams from Ironheart. Kate Bishop from Hawkeye. And potentially a now grown-up Cassie Lang (so maybe not a Young Avengers so much as the newest iteration of the team).
*That's six people right there.
4. Expansion on different worlds in the MCU
Starting with the as-yet-untitled Wakanda series, which will most likely expand on the world of Wakanda first seen in Black Panther. It's not yet known, however, what time period the show will be set in.
What other MCU worlds can be explored next? Knowhere from Guardians of the Galaxy? Asgard from the Thor franchise? Ego's homeworld from Guardians of the Galaxy Volume 2? The homeworlds of Guardians Gamora and Drax?
Are you also pumped about the next crop of MCU shows and movies? Why?
