A Biology Dive into Finding Nemo

If Finding Nemo was real-life...

What would've happened?
1. Nigel, the pelican who saved Marlin and Dory, would've been an Australian Pelican. He was a Brown Pelican in the film, but brown pelicans are found only in North America.
2. This might sound weird, but Marlin would've become Nemo's mom. Clownfish- like Nemo and Marlin- are protandrous hermaphrodites, which means they're all born male but can change to female when a female clownfish dies (compare this to the California Sheephead which is a protogynous hermaphrodite [i.e. all born female]).

What was accurate?
1. Chum's mannerisms, particularly his hyper nature and hatred of humans. Chum is a Mako Shark, which is the fastest shark species and is a common trophy-fishing target.
2. Gill's constant desire to escape from the aquarium into the ocean. Gill is a Moorish Idol, which is exceptionally difficult to keep in captivity.
