My thoughts on Harry Potter expansions
I'm of the firm opinion that we really don't need a Cursed Child movie- same with any more Fantastic Beasts films.
With the Fantastic Beasts films, it seems like they're just effing with established canon (Dumbledore's long-lost brother, anyone? Not to mention the flashback portrayals of Dumbledore in the franchise don't entirely add up) just to move forward with more sequels. With the Cursed Child, though, it's even worse, as there's no sequels planned but it still manages to turn seven books worth of established facts on their frickin' heads.
Let's start with the Time-Turners.
(Strike) 1. It was confirmed in book six that the entire Ministry collection of Time-Turners was destroyed the previous summer. So how was there even one available to use in the play? And don't even get me started on the "going back several years" thing.
And then the ridiculousness that was the "daughter of Voldemort" fracas (strike two). Voldemort was conceived as a result of a love potion and due to that fact can't experience or understand love. So how in the hell can he conceive a child?
I can go on about this topic but I'd like to remain levelheaded for this post.
So let's talk about what's been an idea of mine for a while- a TV show adaptation where each chapter is one episode and each book is one season.
What would I like to see in a show like this?
Arabella Figg should be introduced in season one, not in season five like she is in the movies. As book fans know, Harry hated going to Mrs. Figg's house on Dudley's birthday, but it's revealed later on that she's been watching over him for years and the only way she could keep babysitting him in a sense was if he didn't want to go there (if Vernon and Petunia knew he was happy there they'd stop sending him).
I also think that Hagrid's first meeting with Vernon was better in the books. Him tying the rifle into a knot would be much more intimidating then just bending the gun.
We also don't see Harry's earliest bursts of magic outside of making the snake habitat glass disappear- this is something only book fans know.
And I'd have Harry and Ginny's relationship presented as the slow-burn affair it was in the books instead of having it dumped all at once and out of nowhere in the sixth film.
Let's talk about the Half-Blood Prince season.
1. Instead of having Death Eaters destroying the bridge, I'd include the meeting between Prime Ministers. This would be a better way of explaining how Muggles have been noticing that something's going on (not to mention Death Eaters can't fly without broomsticks).
2. Why exactly was the Burrow destroyed in the movie? It was a cheap action scene contributing nothing to the plot.
3. And why in the blazes did Ginny tie Harry's shoelaces? What a ridiculous (in a very bad way) scene.
More Ideas
1. A hardback Hogwarts: a History
2. A live-action Quidditch through the Ages adaptation for Disney+
3. An animated Tales of Beedle the Bard adaptation for Disney+
And J.K. Rowling shouldn't have any input: writing, directing, showrunning, producing, executive producing, location scouting, etc.
