My thoughts on the Percy Jackson TV show
Firstly, I understand this is going to be a controversial opinion, but I think that anyone that was in the cast for either of the two "films" shouldn't be cast in the TV series- I want the Disney+ rendition to be as much of a "clean slate" as possible.
This includes but isn't limited to Logan Lerman (Percy), Douglas Smith (Tyson), Alexandra Daddario (Annabeth), Brandon T. Jackson (Grover), Bjorn Yearwood as the young version of Grover Underwood, Nathan Fillion (Hermes), Leven Rambin (Clarisse), Stanley Tucci (Dionysus), Anthony Head (Chiron in the second film), Grey Damon (Chris Rodriguez), Pierce Brosnan (Chiron in the first film), Kevin McKidd (Poseidon), Alisha Newton as the young version of Annabeth Chase, Jake Abel (Luke), Rosario Dawson (Persephone), Uma Thurman (Medusa), Sean Bean (Zeus), Robert Knepper who voiced Kronos, Steve Coogan (Hades), Catherine Keener (Sally Jackson), Joe Pantoliano (Gabe Ugliano) or even Octavia Spencer (Martha, one of the snakes on Hermes' caduceus. Not even Mary Birdsong, Yvette Nicole Brown even or Missi Pyle, who were the three Grey Sisters.
Yep, I'd keep out Nathan Fillion, Leven Rambin, Stanley Tucci, Pierce Brosnan, Uma Thurman, Octavia Spencer and Yvette Nicole Brown as part of the "blank slate campaign" for the Disney+ series.
Cinematography: Anyone apart from Stephen Goldblatt and Shelly Johnson should direct the camera operators. Goldblatt directed the cameras in film one and Johnson took over in film two.
Directors: Chris Columbus and Thor Freudenthal shouldn't direct any episodes. Columbus directed the first and Freudenthal the second.
Editing: Peter Honess and Mark Goldblatt shouldn't edit any episodes. Honess edited the first film and Goldblatt edited the second.
Music: I don't want Christophe Beck or Andrew Lockington to help with any music for the series. Beck composed the first installment while Lockington composed the second.
Producers: Rick Riordan is probably going to be one, but names I don't want to see are Karen Rosenfelt and Michael Barnathan in addition to Chris Columbus and Mark Radcliffe. All four of them produced the first film while Rosenfelt and Barnathan have production credits on both.
Writing: I honestly don't care who's in the writers' room, as long as Rick Riordan is the head writer and the roster doesn't include Craig Titley or Marc Guggenheim. Titley wrote the first movie and Guggenheim the second.
I don't care that Chris Columbus directed for the Harry Potter franchise.
I don't care that Stephen Goldblatt helped out with the first two Lethal Weapon films.
I don't care that Craig Titley wrote Cheaper by the Dozen.
If I'm willing to keep out Fillion, Rambin, Tucci, Brosnan, Thurman, Spencer and Brown, I can keep out the next three, as well.
Annabeth is an Aphrodite Express cardholder in the second film- this is a detail that makes no logical sense, as she's been living at Camp Half-Blood year-round for years and hasn't been able to leave the camp for about that length of time. So no mentions of that card in the series, I'd think- not even when Percy visits Olympus and merchants are hawking practically everything.
Percy, Annabeth and Tyson visit the Olympian Postal Service in the second film- so that's out of the series as well, in my opinion.
On a more positive note, if the series moves past five seasons (which I'm hoping it does- I'd even watch if it goes past ten seasons) I'm of the opinion that the same raft that Percy and Annabeth take to Circe's Island should be the same raft that rescues Leo from Calypso's island.
