State of the MCU
With The Falcon and the Winter Soldier debuting next weekend, let's recap both some new developments and what we already know about the stacked-to-the-gills Marvel Cinematic Universe.
1. White Vision is who-knows-where but will surely factor into the MCU moving forward.
During the finale episode of WandaVision, hex Vision (HV) and White Vision (WV) had a philosophical argument concerning Theseus' ship. When they came to the conclusion that neither of them was the real Vision, HV gave WV some of his memories. WV's eyes regained some color- perhaps a sign that he was moving past emotionless robot- and he flew off to parts unknown. I'm hoping his stay in the MCU isn't done, but you never know...
2. Monica Rambeau is headed to space...
The first of two credits scenes in WV's finale showed Monica talk to a Skrull in the Westview movie theater, who tells her that "a friend of her mother's" wants to see her, then points upwards (she didn't say "space", but we got the gist). The assumption is that this will in some way set up Captain Marvel 2 and that Monica is going to meet with Nick Fury, but maybe the "friend" the Skrull mentions is Carol Danvers- maybe this will explain Monica's less-than-thrilled expression when Carol was mentioned earlier in WandaVision.
… And now has super powers.
Throughout the run of WandaVision, Monica passed through the Westview barrier three times. The third time, as we've seen, gave her some powers. We saw them briefly in that episode (cushioning her landing) and more in the finale (when she was shot at but not hurt). Will this set up a Danvers v. Rambeau in Captain Marvel 2 or will Carol and Monica work together?
3. Wanda has moved into full Scarlet Witch territory.
This isn't talking about the Darkhold or astral projection, but rather the fact that Wanda is becoming less "Wanda Maximoff" and more "Scarlet Witch"- she didn't leave Westview in Wanda Maximoff clothing.
4. Will Wanda be a villain in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness?
As we saw in what was the final WandaVision scene, Wanda is engaged in astral projection as she reads through the Darkhold, or the Book of the Damned. But, as I touched on in a previous post, I still think this is left open-ended. If Wanda was simply reading the book for research, she could still be a hero in the Doctor Strange sequel.
5. Where are Tommy and Billy?
This is left fairly open-ended as well. In the final WandaVision scene, Wanda hears the twins calling out to her for help. The big question- is this simply a sense of guilt or are the twins still alive?
6. Everyone knows Peter Parker's identity now.
Honestly, big kudos to the Far from Home filmmakers for thinking of this twist. Mysterio's doctored video not only frames Peter Parker for the London attack and his own death but also unmasks him. So Spider-Man now doesn't have a secret identity, which is huge moving forward.
7. Will this be mentioned in The Falcon and the Winter Soldier?
(a) It's a big news point in the MCU now and (b) both of them were defeated by Spider-Man (who they now know is a teen) in Captain America: Civil War.
