Jey Uso's quick win at WrestleMania 41 could actually be a good thing

I know this will be a hot take- fans apparently didn't like how quick Jey defeated Gunther- but hear me out: This could start a new storyline in the Imperium stable where Kaiser starts campaigning for the spot as leader , and he'd have plenty of kindling.  Can you imagine, for instance, Kaiser telling off Gunther like, "you lost the Intercontinental title at WrestleMania 40, and you lost the Heavyweight belt at WrestleMania 41- Imperium needs someone who won't choke on the biggest stage of them all to be the leader- and that's me "? Another way this could be a good thing- we could be getting a Revenge Tour where Gunther proves that he's more than those two losses - not any championship tilts for a bit, but singles matches against various opponents.

Ted Lasso Thoughts Continued

Rather than casting an actress in the role of coach for the AFC Richmond women's team, why don't we look outside the acting sphere and see if England footballing legend Fara Williams is available? Williams is the most-capped player in Lionesses history with 172 appearances between 2001 and 2019.  Another idea is to send out a casting call to U17 and U18 academy teams across the British Isles - this could create all sorts of naturally occurring storylines based on the dynamics already seen between academy teams.  For instance, there could be a rivalry between two of the players because one of them plays for Liverpool and one of them plays for Manchester United, or Manchester United and Man City, or Arsenal or Tottenham (for those not familiar with English soccer, those are three fairly big rivalries).     Or you could have a majority of the incoming players from what I call the Big Six (Liverpool, Man City, Man U, Arsenal, Tottenham and Chelsea) and then someone...

Cameos I NEED to See in a Potential Ted Lasso Season 4

There was an article that I saw a couple days ago that noted that a potential fourth season of Ted Lasso would focus on the formation of an AFC Richmond women's team- an idea that I absolutely love.  It's entirely possible that this doesn't come to fruition, but if it does, there are some cameo appearances that I'd love to see (for reasons I'll explain): Jamie If the AFC Richmond women's team has a hotshot rookie character, how much of a full-circle moment would it be for Jamie if he's the one to tell her the whole "one of eleven" quote?   Sam This would be both an inspirational pep talk and a full-circle moment for the character. Let's say, for instance, that one of the women's rookies has a potential game-tying goal late in stoppage time waved off for being offsides. We all remember Ted Lasso telling Sam to "be a goldfish" because of their ten-second memory, right? How much of a full-circle moment would it be to have Sam tell t...

2025 WWE Thoughts after the Royal Rumble

This might be a hot take, but here's why it's my opinion that John Cena losing the Royal Rumble is actually a good thing for WWE this year- it opens the door for a Revenge Tour.  Simply put, WrestleMania isn't the only place where John Cena can challenge for a 17th world title - there's SummerSlam, there's the Raw after WrestleMania, there's even Clash at the Castle.  Sure, he could win Money in the Bank and cash in at WrestleMania, much like Damian Priest last year, but WWE has no shortage of options for him to get another title shot. Picture this: a revenge tour against some of these names: CM Punk, Randy Orton, Edge, Otis, Omos, Braun Strowman, Brock Lesnar, Logan Paul, Dominik Mysterio, Penta, Seth Rollins, Drew McIntyre, Andrade, Rey Mysterio, Jey Uso, AJ Styles, LA Knight, Roman Reigns, Chad Gable, Akira Tozawa, Shinsuke Nakamura, Jimmy Uso- I'm sure practically every Superstar would love to face Mr. Cena. After Cena builds a win streak (and think abou...

Moving and Shaking in the Comics World

The comic strip Zits , for the most part over its run, hasn't had very many "shake-up" story arcs- arcs that can branch off into several different storylines or which make significant changes to the characters.  With Connie (Jeremy's mom) recently deciding to return to the working world as a counselor at Jeremy's school, however, this opens up a whole host of possibilities, story-wise, including: How will this impact her? She's been a stay-at-home mom effectively the entirety of the strip's run, so how will she re-adjust to going back to work? How will this impact Walt (Jeremy's dad)? Walt's been the sole wage-winner for the family as an orthodontist for- again- effectively the entirety of the strip, so how Walt adjusts to the reality that Connie will also be contributing income- either positively or negatively- could also be the focus of some strips. How will this impact Jeremy? In other words, how much will he be affected by having his mom at sch...

Animals Cont'd

I have some other ideas for the HBO Harry Potter series: For a scene across any of the seasons where the action takes place in or around the Dursley's neighborhood, have someone walk through the scene walking a Jack Russell Terrier (for those of you who don't know, Ron's Patronus is a Jack Russell terrier- this would be a nice in-joke referencing that).  There could be a Swan that has a home on the lake at Hogwarts (Cho Chang's patronus is a swan).  During the ill-fated zoo visit in season one, have one of the habitats that Piers, Harry and the Dursleys walk past (with Piers and the Dursley's being clearly uninterested) be a Sea Otter habitat (Hermione's Patronus is a Sea Otter). *Actually, now that I think about it, the Jack Russell terrier and Sea Otter cameos can both happen during the zoo visit- Harry can stop to pet the terrier and then, a scene or two later, stop to watch the sea otters for a minute. This references the order in which he befriended Ron...

Talking about Owls

For the HBO Harry Potter series, here's my idea for the scene where numerous owls gather at Privet Drive to try to deliver Harry's letter (which would be in season one of the show): Only have owls that are featured in the books.  This would include... Snowy Owls (Hedwig) These should be the most numerous of the owl species.  Screech Owls (Hermes- Percy Weasley's owl) Eagle Owls, more specifically some Eurasian Eagle Owls  (Draco Malfoy's owl) Some Great Grey Owls (Errol, the Weasley family owl)  A humorous touch, but Scops Owls (Fan theory as to what Pigwidgeon is, but the owl shop at Hogsmeade- seen in book three- has a few scops owls for sale)

Jeremy Duncan's Resume

With Jeremy Duncan of Zits starting a retail job in this weeks' installments, let's take a look back at some of his other jobs (his college application is really coming along strong). Daily Comic Strip Analysis- July 2, 2024

Garfield Featuring his usual blank expression, Garfield's staring at the open refrigerator for two of the three panels. The joke is in the final panel, where Jon tells him that leftover pizza won't magically appear. Nothing to add to that, just Garfield at its best.  Zits Gotta love callbacks to older strips. Today's installment sees Jeremy at his retail job, one of a few jobs he's held over the course of the strip. His first task involves folding a pile of jeans, "just like he would at home", and, of course, he has to call his mom for help. Long-time readers of the strip know that it's a running gag for Jeremy to never hang up or fold his laundry.

Talking about Zits

... the comic strip, for those of you wondering. An ongoing storyline involves Jeremy's dilemma over selling his van- a 1962 split-window VW kombi that he's been driving for years- potentially for thirty thousand dollars. In one of the strips where this is introduced, Jeremy mentions that "half of it belongs to Hector", which is a fantastic callback.  Back when the strip was still in black-and-white, Jeremy and Hector chipped in to buy the van for only $300 and spent several years repairing it to make it roadworthy again.  Newer readers probably didn't get this reference when it was published but I liked the fact that they included this reference to one of their earlier strips.

Thoughts on the Mysterious Benedict Society- Episodes 1 and 2

Phil Hay and Matt Manfredi deserve a ton of credit for writing Sticky's first scene in the pilot episode. In this brief clip, he gets a prize-money check but his parents take it away immediately. This, of course, is a reference to his backstory from the first book where his parents- after his increasing quiz show success- become more focused on the prizes he brings home than on his well-being. Episode 2 features a brief but very well-written moment courtesy of the same duo that beautifully captures Martina Crowe's personality, where she glares around the classroom and causes her fellow students to lower their raised hands. This is very much in keeping with Martina's "don't cross me" book personality.

A Biology Dive into Finding Nemo

If Finding Nemo was real-life... What would've happened? 1. Nigel, the pelican who saved Marlin and Dory, would've been an Australian Pelican . He was a Brown Pelican in the film, but brown pelicans are found only in North America. 2. This might sound weird, but Marlin would've become Nemo's mom. Clownfish- like Nemo and Marlin- are protandrous hermaphrodites, which means they're all born male but can change to female when a female clownfish dies (compare this to the California Sheephead which is a protogynous hermaphrodite [i.e. all born female]).  What was accurate? 1. Chum's mannerisms, particularly his hyper nature and hatred of humans. Chum is a Mako Shark , which is the fastest shark species and is a common trophy-fishing target.  2. Gill's constant desire to escape from the aquarium into the ocean. Gill is a Moorish Idol , which is exceptionally difficult to keep in captivity.

Ahead in the Marvel Cinematic Universe

Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness won't release until 2022 but I'm thinking that Wanda Maximoff/Scarlet Witch will be a villain in the film, following reports that her original accent from Age of Ultron will return. This seems to be nicely in line with the post-credits scene from the WandaVision finale, which saw her practicing astral projection in her mountain cabin and reading the Darkhold. As an aside, this might clear up a question I've had since March about whether she was studying the Darkhold or using it for research.  Something tells me that The Falcon and the Winter Soldier will tie in to the upcoming Armor Wars series, where James Rhodes notices and tries to stop Tony Stark's tech falling into the wrong hands, and it's based on Sharon Carter's phone call after getting her old job back. Remember her phone call where she mentioned having government secrets and prototype weapons available to the highest bidder? It sounds like she's not ...

What do I want to see in the Disney+ Percy Jackson series?

1. No acting/writing/directing/producing/composing/editing/cinematography continuity between the "films" and the TV show. 2. Roles selected by geographic casting. This means Percy from New York City and Annabeth from around Richmond, Virginia and Clarisse from Phoenix, Arizona and Luke from Westport, Connecticut.  3. Family situations taken into account in casting, as well. This means Bianca and Nico should be more on the self-reliant side and Percy should have a stepfather and Annabeth should have a stepmom with some kids of her own.  4. An actual Camp Half-Blood set on Long Island.

Pros of adapting various comic strips into animated series (cons in another post)

Beetle Bailey: Not just the everyman titular character but the other members of the platoon.  Get Fuzzy: The various eccentric characters featured in the strip, from British cat Mac Manc McManx to the aptly-named Chubby Huggs to Foodar ( Food Rad ar ).  Retail: The character's careers and relationships grow and their personal and financial lives outside of the store are explored.  Zits: This isn't a static strip in terms of personal development. For instance, Jeremy (the main character) is thinking of getting a barista job during college and a few years ago he was at his freshman dance.
