Thursday's Thoughts

1. I mentioned on a previous blog post that an idea for an extension on the HSM series would be a website detailing the history of East High. An idea that I just had would be to make it seem that the current East High students (as seen in High School Musical: The Musical: The Series ) are recording the history. Potential Header: The History of East High As told by East High students 2. The iPhone app Pocket World 3D could transition into the fantasy genre, with a step-by-step construction of Hogwarts (from Harry Potter ) or some locations from the Star Wars franchise (the Lars homestead or the Death Star or the Mos Eisley cantina) or some locations from the Lightning Thief books, like the Princess Andromeda or Circe's Island or Polyphemus' Island or Camp Half-Blood or Camp Jupiter.  3. I was thinking there's an option for a book sequel for the 1987 film Crossroads , but I'm guessing that book might not sell due to the simple fact that not a lot of people might be int...

More potential ideas

You can add yours in comments Bone graphic novel series - "Before the Bones" prequel book Diary of a Wimpy Kid book series - The "Zoo-Wee Mama!" comics assembled in book form   High School Musical series - "History of East High" website which could include info on "Spider" Bill Natrine and "Thunder-Clap" Hap Hadden. Another idea is the actual "Twinkle Towne" musical (or musicale, as Mrs. Darbus calls it) Hunger Games book series - I might've mentioned this before, but a collection of letters from Prim to Katniss following the events of the first two books     Men in Black - "Welcome, Agent (Insert Name Here)" new hire packet  Noises Off - The actual play performed in the play/film  Stranger Things - A one-season prequel set in 1979-1980 Hawkins, Indiana  Suite Life on Deck - "Welcome to Seven Seas High" orientation booklet

Potential reboots- Pros and Cons- Part One

Like I mentioned previously, I'm not working on any of these- these are just ideas that I have.  The Big Green (1995) Potential Synopsis for Season 1  Twenty years after the original film in 2015, Elma, Texas has grown from a small town to a bustling city, and the kids there have grown, too- away from soccer and their small-town roots and are slightly more spoiled then back in 1995 while the Austin Knights have won sixteen national titles. Can that change with the arrival into town of an eighth-grader and her family from Manchester, England? Will an Elma Soccer Academy develop or will the new arrivals head back across the pond?  Pro- The option for a dynamic, constantly changing cast if the focus shifts to more of an academy-type format where people enter almost as constantly as they leave. Con- It could be a bit of a challenge to film pre-pandemic-2015 group and soccer scenes in a time of COVID guidelines and precautions, but this can be avoided somewhat with a stretche...

Expanding on iPhone games- Potential Ideas- Part One

GardenScapes - An option for bonus garden furnishings from movies and TV shows, like the Prince Hans statue (Big Hero 6)   Hogwarts Mystery - An animated or live-action series (most likely animated, I would think) following the non-class events in the game    HomeScapes - An option for bonus home furnishings from movies or TV shows, like the Mirror of Erised (Harry Potter) Klondike - Maybe a potential animated series? Not the home base goings-on, but the different quests through the different chapters Township - An option to give museum tours when all available artifacts have been assembled

Dream-casting the "Bone" animated series- Part One- Primary Characters

There hasn't yet been any news about cast for the series so I'd thought I'd list out who I'd pick if I was working on the series.  Feel free to list some ideas in the comments. And another note- these aren't all the projects they've done, just the ones off the top of my head.  Fone Bone- Zac Efron ( High School Musical franchise, Baywatch , Greatest Showman , Hairspray , 17 Again ) Phoney Bone- Sam Rockwell ( The Way, Way Back ; Green Mile ; Iron Man 2 ; Galaxy Quest ) Smiley Bone- Adam Sandler ( 50 First Dates ,  Billy Madison , Happy Gilmore , Bedtime Stories , Pixels , etc.) Thorn- Emma Watson ( Harry Potter series, Noah , The Circle , Beauty and the Beast )  Gran'ma Ben- Maggie Smith ( Harry Potter series, Othello , Hook  and Downton Abbey among many other film and stage productions) Fone Bone is the primary narrator and Zac has been one of the credited leads in several films. I can easily imagine Phoney's lines spoken in Justin Hammer's voic...

Thoughts on a potential Quidditch through the Ages adaptation

Just a reminder that I'm not working on one- these are just some ideas that I have for the project. 1. Daniel Radcliffe and Bonnie Wright can be narrators.  *This would be a callback to their respective character's Quidditch history, with Harry (Radcliffe) starring for Gryffindor and Ginny (Wright) playing professionally for the Holyhead Harpies.  2. It would probably work better as a series rather than as a single documentary. *This would leave the door open to expanding different sections to fit thirty- or sixty-minute episode parameters as opposed to fitting every section into a single two-hour block and having to skim through some details.

A post about the logo of the Percy Jackson Disney+ series

I'm going to start by pointing out that I'm beyond excited for a more faithful adaptation of my all-time favorite book series.  That being said, I found the logo choice quite... interesting. Let me explain. I should start by saying that I absolutely hated the two film adaptations- they didn't do the book series justice at all . And they were titled "Percy Jackson and the Olympians" and either "The Lightning Thief" or "The Sea of Monsters". Getting back to the Disney+ series, the logo and title looks eerily similar to the logo choice for the second "film" in the series. In my non-counting opinion as the non-creator of the Disney+ series, I think the series should be renamed as "The Half-Blood Chronicles" for a couple reasons (which I think I already mentioned, but I'll list them out here): 1. A visual/literal/figurative separation from the two (failed attempts at) movie remakes. 2. It establishes the demigod world as ...

How to expand the Harry Potter universe

The recent news that HBO is considering a live-action Harry Potter series got me thinking about how to expand the Potterverse past the initial eight movies- and not looking for now at the Fantastic Beasts franchise, which I'm looking at as a separate entity (reasons to follow in a separate post).  Also note- I'm not working on any of these- these are just some things that I'm thinking would be good additions to the Potterverse library.  Quidditch through the Ages - The companion booklet adapted into a documentary or docuseries, which I see as more of a Disney+ production then an HBO production, but that's just me. This would explore the evolution of the game from its earliest stages to what we see at Hogwarts.  A vlog-style show following Lily Luna Potter- Harry and Ginny's youngest- as she goes through her first year at Hogwarts. A Marauders series, which fans- as well as myself- are wanting to see. We want to see them become Animagi! We want to see them create the...

More Potential Ideas

Glee- If we go by release dates of various episodes, Quinn's daughter- who was adopted- was born on June 8th, 2010, which means she'd be ten right now, and just the right age to potentially start to want to know about her biological mom. Wouldn't an exchange of letters look super cool? Grease and Grease 2 - A potential TV show reboot about Rydell High... in 2010   The Big Green - In a potential TV series reboot of the 1995 film, Elma, Texas has grown and so have the kids- a new generation has moved past soccer and are slightly more spoiled. Enter stage left Natalie, an exchange student and soccer phenom from Manchester, England (a callback to the original film, where the new teacher is on exchange from England) The Hunger Games book series- A series of journal entries from Prim's point of view covering the events of the first two books

Dream-showrunning the Lightning Thief series- ten things I'd implement

1. I'd rename the series to "Half-Blood Chronicles" for a few reasons- it shows the demigod world as bigger then just how Percy sees it and it separates the series from the two (failed attempts at) movies. 2. Casting for main characters would be based on where the books say they're from, so no wide-range casting calls.  3. No screen test with Percy and Annabeth- in the books, they meet for the first time at Camp Half-Blood.   4. An actual, habitable Camp Half-Blood should be built at Long Island.  5. Any year-round campers (like Annabeth) should live on set before principal photography begins.  6. No blooper reels- anything the actors say or do when the cameras are rolling is included in the final take. This is what happens in real life. 7. Whoever's cast as Luke should have camp counselor experience. 8. Whoever's cast as Hestia should not only be eight, but should film her season five scenes during principal photography for season one. 9. Release dates of the...

Potential Ideas, cont'd

The Iron Man franchise A biography of Tony Stark.  The Bad News Bears (2005) A book sequel following Amanda Wurlitzer as she tries out for a collegiate team after playing in high school.  Good Luck Charlie A potential spinoff following Charlie's adventures in middle school.  Noises Off (the play and the movie) An actual Nothing On play (the play the actors were trying to get through).  Harry Potter A TV show based on the Hogwarts Mystery iPhone game, set in the school year after Harry survives the Killing Curse. The iPhone game follows a first-year student who comes to Hogwarts after his/her brother disappears- this after doing something awful at Hogwarts. The main character tries to solve the mystery while working through his/her coursework and making friends (and enemies).  A vlog-style show following Lily Luna Potter (Harry and Ginny's youngest) as she works through her first year at Hogwarts.

An interview with myself about the Wizarding World franchise

Why are you not that excited about the third Fantastic Beasts film? Based on the ending of the second film, they're changing HP canon just to crank out a sequel, which (I think) isn't exactly the best way to go. Would you be more excited about a potential Marauders series? Absolutely- we don't know all that much about their Hogwarts days outside of classmate recollections and Pensieve trips. What about a Quidditch through the Ages series? Yes- I think Potterheads would be interested in learning about the evolution of the game and how it evolved into the game at Hogwarts.

An Animated History of the World- Part One

In my Animated History of the World theory, the Land before Time series (talking dinosaurs as the first animals) comes first, and is followed by the Ice Age series (how humans first associated with talking animals, and it also explains that the ability for animals to talk is an evolved trait). After some time, we get into the Brother Bear and Brother Bear 2 territory, and at the same time- but a different geographic region- Pocahontas (I get that this is an inaccurate film but my animated history theory looks at all animated works). Over on the British Isles, we have Brave (medieval Scotland) and The Sword in the Stone (England). Scandinavian history, meanwhile, is represented by the Frozen franchise while Danish history sees The Little Mermaid .  *We also see some family tree evidence, as The Little Mermaid 's Prince Eric is a direct descendant- four hundred years down- from Prince Phillip and Princess Aurora from Sleeping Beauty .

Potential comic-strip ideas

Garfield : A series of strips depicting Garfield's childhood, touched on briefly in several strips and the short film Garfield on the Town . This could even be a prequel-spinoff strip titled Young Garfield.   Another idea stems from a Curtis comic where Cookie- the Camp Swampy cook from Beetle Bailey - is the cook at a diner that Curtis goes to. I don't know if this would work better as a comic strip collection or as something animated, but it could show how Cookie went from Camp Swampy to a diner in Curtis' hometown.

What would I like to see from various works?

Note- this isn't what will happen, but what I want to happen. Romeo and Juliet A short play prequel about the two brawls before the play takes place. You remember the Prince's line "have thrice disturbed the quiet of our streets"- "thrice" in this instance meaning the one he just broke up plus two (previously unseen) brawls between the Capulet and Montague families. The Great Gatsby (book) A sequel following Pamela, the daughter of Nick and Daisy who was last seen as an infant at the end of Great Gatsby, around her sixteenth birthday.  Marvel Cinematic Universe An actual Nova documentary on Einstein-Rosen Bridges, as delivered by Dr. Erik Selvig (as seen in the in-flight entertainment options in Spider-Man: Far from Home ).  Harry Potter A docuseries adapting the companion book Quidditch through the Ages to the screen.  Ratatouille A documentary or docuseries depicting Colette's journey from being a chef at one of several restaurants in Paris to being...

Pros and Cons of a "Young Penny" Big Bang Theory spinoff

Pro: We might finally know Penny's last name! Long-time fans of The Big Bang Theory will recognize this one- Penny's original last name was never revealed in twelve seasons. No one knew if the creators genuinely didn't know what her last name was or if they actually did know and just didn't tell anyone. Con: Do we really want to know? It's a long-standing writing rule that what the reader (or viewer) thinks is happening is better than anything definitive. TBBT fans have had twelve seasons to think about what Penny's last name might be and will probably come up with a lot of theories- as such, the reveal of Penny's actual last name might just be anticlimactic.  Pro: Kaley Cuoco could return to narrate This is purely speculation at this point, but Kaley Cuoco could return and lend her voice talent to narrate the series, much like Jim Parsons does already with the Young Sheldon spinoff.  Con: But what about The Flight Attendant , Cuoco's new series?  Thi...

Pros and Cons about a Great Gatsby Muppets adaptation

Pro: The Muppets haven't adapted many famous works The only one I can remember them adapting is A Christmas Carol - having them adapt The Great Gatsby would be a way of introducing that book to a younger audience. Con: There are a lot of Muppets movies The Muppets have had a lot of films since they were introduced in the 60s- another film starring them might be seen by some people as just another cash grab at this point. Pro: The nostalgia factor However, the Muppets are a unique group in the sense that they can appeal to a wide age range- adults might see a film starring them because of the fact that they grew up with the Muppets in some form.  *It's kind of like Anamaniacs , where kids like the catchy songs while some of the jokes are for the adults in the audience. Con: It might have a cash-grab feel So far, the Muppets franchise has fourteen movies (eight feature films and six direct-to-video), eleven TV series, two television films, twenty-seven television specials (twent...
